Examining the suggestion that technology, humans and the earth aren't complementary.
There seems to be tendency to separate all technology, humans and earth to be completely exclusive factors in our world, and this is often done with an antagonistic tone mainly towards humans whose claim is the parasites of the world and technology whose claim is the damaging factor of the world. This here is essentially a techno-counterargument against such trends among thoughts.
Alternatives
Alternatives:
There are numerous alternatives that can be considered which are arguably much more efficient, promises showcasing robust engineering and overall has much less carbon emissions compared to the fossil fuels making each much more tending to the atmosphere and climate and humanity as well as the entirety of the biosphere, this is precisely where Darwin meets Silicon.
Tidal and offshore solar energy
Tidal and offshore solar energy harnesses the natural energy from the ocean with the use of tidal mills, wave energy converters and OTEC. Tidal energy takes advantage of tide movement, often via barrage systems, and wave energy captures kinetic energy with devices like point absorbers. Power generated from tidal and ocean currents are done by the use of rotors suspended from floating barges. Another thing is Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) leverages a 40F temperature difference between the surface of the water and the deep water in order to generate power, with it's operation accompanied by a planned offshore plant mixing warm and cold water. This can greatly reduce CO2 emissions due to it's lack of carbon-content and not having to combust materials that results in non-renewable waste.
Nuclear power
Nuclear power is among the most robust in protecting air quality, being able to produce massive amounts of carbon-free electricity, making it one of the more promising of energy alternatives, it's optimal use extends more than just electricity. Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators (RTG) uses nuclear power sources and converts heat into electricity during space missions to this day it is what keeps Voyager 1 still running as it nears interstellar space. It is among the largest sources of clean power avoiding 471 million metric tons of carbon each year, while also generating nearly 775 billion KwH of electricity each year. However, it's quite common that when people think of the word 'nuclear' what almost inevitably crosses their mind are disasters like Chernobyl or atrocities like Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While understandable, it as an issue is largely irrational.
considering Fusion
Fission is one of those things that can be highly captivating but has yet to make an actual appearance, it's anticipation has been lingering for quite some time now but unfortunately even today it is largely unsure when exactly fusion will even begin it's experimental processing. The method involves two atomic nuclei and having them collide into one another which essentially forms a more potent and heavier nuclei while of course generating high levels of energy. Stars share this type of power generation through the fusion of hydrogen atoms and helium. Similar to fission which is what largely makes up of our current nuclear power, it is incredibly powerful energy while also being completely carbon-free speculatively able to maintain baseload power, while being about 1 million times more energy dense than fossil fuels. Similar to nuclear power (other forms/variants) it is an incredibly powerful and robust alternative, being both a more promising energy source and one of the greatest natural powers observable in our universe.
The myth of tech antagonism:
Correlation does not mean Causation is an important thing that every single person should know or at least take it into consideration, though when it comes to tech all such idea of the logical necessity of realizing such a thing about dynamics is nearly completely neglected. Tech without doubt has had it's fair share of incredibly dark instances throughout history but it's also counterintuitive to insist on dragging such a past as something absolutely permanent. Technology is the means to new doors, truly new doors that is as Heraclitus had suggest, ever-changing or more accurately ever-advancing.
innovation
Evidence suggests that the Hominid use of fire can be dated back between 1.5 to 1.7 million years ago, with time-ruined evidence found on numerous locations from Wonderwerk Cave in South Africa, Koobi Fora in Kenya and Swartkrans in South Africa. Essentially man's first true piece of technology, so innovative it even had an effect on biology. Fire allowed early hominid's to cook their food, keep them warm and unbeknownst to them change the future forever. Today technology may not be at the best place at the moment, but it is sub-optimal to give up now and to forever consider tech to be the world's greatest villain. With efforts technology can be the most effective mitigation that this struggling plane desperately needs, but such a goal requires collective effort.
Mitigation
Throughout history we as a species have been dealing with illness after illness, worst yet there were times where we had no idea what the causes were as well as what could have helped us in such unfortunate times. From stuffing the beaks of masks with peppers and spices believing that is capable of rendering a plague neutralized to the use of radiation to target and close in onto a malignant cancer is a huge and incredible leap. Technologies like StarLink allowing optimal flow of information and communication, as well as Artificial Intelligence with it's assistance effectively allowing thousands upon thousands of proteins being structured possible, with the task just but a few decades beforehand took enormous effort to structure even one let alone 12. Mitigation is what we have always needed and still need today, especially when it comes to the state of our planet.
Optimization
From robotics to biotech, from medicine to fusion, technology is only looking more and more promising at the forefront of innovation, should this include our planet as well alongside life as a whole. To suggest we are somehow separate from Physics and Chemistry is somewhat asinine, in actuality we are dictated by those primordial forces that have always been and will continue to be. Isn't it about time we realize the interconnectedness of our existence? To tend our world is to optimize our existence, and to optimize our existence is to make our time here as comfortable as possible. Look upon the world and ask yourself "What can I create?" or better yet "What can I do?"
